Population Screening Programmes: Helping people to look after their health.

What is population screening? Population screening is where the NHS invites people to have a screening test when they reach a certain age in order to detect possible early signs of disease.

They may then be re-invited for screening at regular intervals until they reach the age limit for the screening programme.

The people invited for screening are apparently healthy, with no symptoms, but may have a higher chance of developing the disease.

If early signs of the disease are detected, then treatment can be offered sooner and there is a greater chance of being cured and/or surviving for a longer time.

For more information please visit https://www.nhsinform.scot/healthy-living/screening/ or speak to your General Practitioner.
