What we can offer Young Adult Carers?

As a Young Adult Carer, we will support and encourage you to think about your own wellbeing and have a life alongside your caring role. Young Adult Carers may have accessed support as a Young Carer. Supporting Young Adult Carers allows for a smooth transition into Adult Services while still recognising the needs of young people.

One to One Support

One to One support with an allocated support worker can provide Young Adult Carers with the opportunity to talk about their caring role and how it is affecting them. Support workers will offer information, advice and support on other serviced that a Young Adult Carer can access.

Groups & Activities

Groups allow Young Adult Carers the opportunity to meet other who understand and can relate to their caring role. It is an opportunity for Young Adult Carers to relax and take a break from their caring responsibilities. Our groups run across the region and virtually. From bowling to café meet ups – there is something for everyone.

Adult Carer Support Plan

The Adult Carer Support Plan provides the opportunity to express your feelings and needs as a Carer. The aim is to find out what impact your caring responsibilities have on your life and helps you identify ways to achieve your goals and aspirations It may also help you to access respite.

Support in Further Education & Training

Young Adult Carers Support workers offer drop in and information stands at colleges across Dumfries and Galloway. Young Adult Carers studying in further education or considering studying further education can access this service. We can offer training and help you recognise the skills you have gained within your caring role.

Carers Emergency Card

Do you worry about what would happen to the person you care for if you were taken ill and unable to tell anyone that someone depended on you? The Carers Emergency Card is credit card size to fit in your purse or wallet and will help give you peace of mind.

Grants, Funding & Benefits

Young Adult Carers can be supported by their Support Worker to access grants and funding. These could be for a break away, to help access clubs or hobbies or to help with driving lessons.  

We can provide you with information on benefits and assistance that you or the person you care for may be entitled to and refer you to the relevant organisation to help you access them.

45% of Young Adult Carers surveyed by Carers Trust reported a mental health problem. Caring can impact a young person’s health, wellbeing, social life, and self-confidence.
