Young Carers Action Day

Young Carers Action Day is an annual event organised by Carers Trust to raise awareness of Young Carers and the amazing contributions they make to their families and the local community.

Young Carers Action Day 2023

Young Carers Action Day 2023 aimed to raise awareness of Young Carers health and wellbeing. The theme ‘Make Time for Young Carers’ highlighted the need for professionals to listen to Young Carers, the challenges they face and to understand the support that is required to allow them opportunities out with their caring role.

In Dumfries and Galloway, we worked with professional artists through CREATE to produce artwork that captured important messaged from Young Carers. The project allowed Young Carers to express themselves creatively and to boost their confidence, self-esteem and build new relationships.

Young Carers Time for Tea Parties

Across the region ‘Time for Me Tea Parties’ were held. Young Carers came together to enjoy cakes, games and to share how they would prioritise their wellbeing – there were lots of fantastic ideas such as going for a walk, playing the Xbox and reading a book.

Going to the group I was nervous, but I wanted to go along. It was great. It has given me to confidence to return to school. I have new friends now and we are staying in touch.”
